Statute of Limitations Policy Statement
The National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) supports the elimination of the civil and criminal statutes of limitation for child sexual abuse. In recognition of the numerous barriers that survivors of child sexual abuse have to reporting the abuse, perpetrators and institutions that failed to prevent the abuse should be held criminally and civilly accountable at any time. NPEIV further supports the retroactive elimination of civil statutes of limitation for child sexual abuse. Allowing survivors to file civil lawsuits for past abuse can identify perpetrators who may still be abusing children, and thus protecting children from further abuse.
