Suicide Prevention Resources

NPEIV COVID-19 Series, Part IV

As we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic – individually, communally, and globally -- it is important to acknowledge that ongoing physical isolation from our support networks can potentially impact our mental health and well-being. Physical isolation, job insecurity/loss, and lack of access to mental health services are factors that may increase the risk for suicide. Additionally, societal stigma about suicide often silences those who need help. However, there is hope and ways we can support each other.

Taking care of our mental health and ensuring access to reliable information from organizations like the CDC and WHO are essential for weathering this uncertain time. Whether through letters, phone calls, social media or other virtual platforms, maintaining contact with our friends, loved ones, and community is critical to sustaining social and emotional connections. Acknowledging and sharing our struggles and fears with others can also help us manage negative emotional states and improve our overall well-being.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please know you are not alone and reach out for help. Links to free help and resources are provided below.
