Raising Awareness

October is a month that captures many important themes and topics. It is the beginning of fall and the transition into cooler weather, and this seasonal change encompasses many celebrations. Most importantly, October supports raising awareness of important topics such as intimate partner violence, bullying, crime prevention, and mental illness. National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, National Bullying Prevention Month, and National Crime Prevention Month are all recognized in October. The International Day of Non-Violence was celebrated on October 2nd, focusing on honoring Gandhi’s work and how his legacy has influenced non-violent protests globally. October 7th through 13th was Mental Illness Awareness Week, and World Mental Health Day was acknowledged on October 10th.

Raising awareness and encouraging conversations about these issues highlights the many ways in which we – individuals, communities, and society – can effectively reduce violence and support those experiencing the impacts of mental illness, trauma, and abuse. NPEIV asks you to join us in recognition of the steps you have taken to reduce violence and support others, no matter how large or small. Celebrate these actions, as each one brings us closer to a world without interpersonal violence for everyone; for all people, in all communities, at all stages of life.

The National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence (NPEIV) Across the Lifespan is an overarching group of individuals, organizations, agencies, coalitions, and groups that embrace a national, multi-disciplinary and multicultural commitment to violence prevention across the lifespan.

NPEIV is committed to reducing interpersonal violence and its consequences through scientific research and application of empirical findings. It is our mission to make the prevention of interpersonal violence a national and international priority and to encourage healthy relationships by linking science, practice, policy and advocacy. Through our many partnerships and collaborations, it is our vision to end all types of interpersonal violence, for all people, in all communities, at all stages of life.
