A sizeable minority of partner violent offenders are not sufficiently responsive to batterer intervention and continue to engage in harmful abuse and violence. This workshop will outline some general principles of risk-responsive intervention, provide an overview of evidence-based strategies for risk assessment of partner violent offenders, and examine strategies for supportive risk management and case-responsive intervention. It will review strategies for assessing and addressing key clinical risk factors, including exposure to adverse childhood experiences and other traumatic events, post-traumatic stress symptoms, emotion dysregulation, substance abuse, and unemployment.
