Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic with kindness.

As our nation and the world continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the wonderful ways in which we are coming together across the planet are amazing to behold. From residents singing to each other from balconies in Italy to the “kindness postcard”to schools giving drive-thru meals for students, it is a remarkable reminder of the power kindness and compassion bring to us all. However, there is also much uncertainty and fear during times like these. Not only are financial hardships occurring due to work restrictions and layoffs, school closures are significantly impact low income families who rely on schools for meals and child care, as well as everyone ese who do not have remote working options. While the current restrictions are integral to ensure the safety of us all, it is also important to remember to practice kindness and recognize the additional hardships facing many within our communities.

Taking care of our mental health and ensuring access to reliable information from organizations like the CDC and WHO are also essential for weathering these difficult times. Knowing the facts and managing our anxieties in a healthy manner can help us all succeed during this uncertain time. The American Psychological Association (APA) has a great resource list: https://www.apa.org/practice/programs/dmhi/research-information/pandemics
