Congratulations to the NPEIV 2021 Awardees!

The National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) Paul Fink Interpersonal Violence Prevention Award

The NPEIV Paul Fink Interpersonal Violence Prevention Award is given to an individual or agency that has made significant contributions to our understanding of how multiple forms of violence are related, and the importance of addressing them through development and implementation of an integrated violence prevention approach. The award was named to honor the work of the late Paul Fink, a longtime Clinical Psychiatry News Columnist and Editorial Adviser, and a key leader in the field of psychiatry, working to prevent child abuse and trauma. Nominations for this award were open to the NPEIV membership, submitted to and determined by the NPEIV Awards committee. Presented virtually during the NPEIV Think Tank on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

This year’s award was presented to Bettye M. Mitchell, M.A., a nationally recognized leader in organization and program development, leadership, management, training within aging, protective services, and elder abuse. Mitchell currently serves in dual roles for the East Texas Council of Governments as the Director of Aging Programs for the Area Agency on Aging of East Texas and as the Housing Director of the East Texas Council of Governments. She has proven leadership as a dynamic, results-oriented executive who can coordinate efforts of consumers, advocacy groups, service providers and state and federal agencies to improve the lives of persons growing older and with disabilities. Mitchell has 40 plus years of experience in providing strong leadership with programs serving Older Americans and persons with disabilities. Mitchell currently serves as the Treasurer of the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) and has held leadership positions with numerous community organizations, boards, and other affiliations.

The National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV) Heritage Service Award

The NPEIV Heritage Service Award recognizes the contributions of an individual who has served the NPEIV in a variety of significant ways over a minimum of 5 years. It is named in honor of Robert Geffner and Jacquelyn White who co-founded NPEIV in 2008. This award recognizes leadership sustained over the ensuing decade beyond the normal role as a Board or Executive Committee member and serves as a way to recognize the often-unheralded service that many have given to NPEIV, in both formal and informal ways, above and beyond expectations. Honors for this award were determined by the NPEIV Awards committee and presented virtually during the NPEIV Think Tank on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

This year’s award was presented to Alan Rosenbaum, Ph.D., a Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Center for the Study of Family Violence and Sexual Assault at Northern Illinois University. His research interests include the etiology and treatment of aggressive behavior, with a focus on intimate partner violence. He was founding director of the Marital Research and Treatment Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, which included the Men’s Educational Workshop, one of the oldest and largest university-based batterer treatment programs in the U.S., as well as anger management programs for men, women, and male adolescents. He has published numerous journal articles, books, and book chapters. He also serves on the Editorial Board for three academic journals. Dr. Rosenbaum has devoted more than 15 years of service to NPEIV in various leadership roles, as a member of the NPEIV Board of Directors, to the Research Action Team, and has made a major contribution to the Handbook of Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Across the Lifespan.
